Thoughts on the Justice System....

To start this section, I want to state that we, The United States have one of the greatest justice systems in the world.  However, there are always little things here and there that can use some tweaks.  Our founding fathers had a dream about this country and how to run it.  These dreams have been altered and changed in the name of progress and civil rights.  Therein lays the problems with our justice system.

People used to take responsibility for there actions and or make things right themselves.   Now we have laws in place which protect the criminal and stupid people more then the victim.  We are afraid of a lawsuit for going about our daily routine, afraid to help a stranger for fear of the unknown.  We have lost a lot, in the last 100 years, of respect and compassion for each other.

We now live in a society where people will do anything to get rich quick.  The problem with this is, there are very few ethical ways to do this.  One of the most common things to achieve this is through the court.  You can sue for just about anything nowadays.  The problem is, the courts are started letting people get away with it, and now, it has gotten to the point where you can’t stop it without causing some form of social uproar.  People are using their stupidity to get money out of others.  A few examples:

1. 79 year old woman takes the lid off of her coffee cup to put cream and sugar in.  The cup, which is between her legs spills and gives third degree burns to her thighs and pelvic area.  Ok, so McDonalds has the coffee too hot, they didn’t spill the cup.  She gets some amount less then $480,000.00.  I believe that is a bit excessive.  What should have happened:  McDonalds takes responsibility for keeping their coffee too hot, pays for the medical bills.  Woman takes responsibility for being clumsy, and settles for medical bills monetary value.

This spawns many lawsuits against McDonalds, some of which are totally preposterous.  Woman sues McD’s for a “contaminated” cheeseburger bite to cause her to lose her libido.  Man sues McD’s for making him fat.  Woman sues McD’s because she didn’t know that be eating their food she could get fat. 

2. Mother sues trucking company, papa johns pizza, and local bar because her son got drunk and crawled under a parked tractor trailer truck.  The driver of the truck failed to look under his car before driving away killing the man.
3. Woman sues city of Tucson, AZ for not posting warnings of gopher and squirrel holes in a public park.  She tripped in one of these holes and sprained her ankle.
4. Man sues homeowner for compensation of being locked in the homes garage for e days without food, other then dog food, or water.  Reason he was in the garage, he was planning to rob the place.

As you can see there are definitely some issues apparent in our justice system.  Some how we need to place some sense of responsibility in our own actions.  Ifone makes a stupid decision, one should live by the consequences of these decisions.  We cannot keep blaming everyone but ourselves for the situations we put ourselves in.  Obviously, there are some legit lawsuits.  And for a democracy, we need this system in place.  However, there needs to be some form of control over what can and cannot be sued for.  Otherwise we are wasting our money, taxes, and time of the judges who should be working authentic cases.
